Eric Wright Group Sector Based Work Academy

Preston College are delighted to be working in partnership with the Eric Wright Group, offering a two week Fire Door Joiner Sector Based Work Academy.

The work academy involves full-time attendance at Preston College for two week, where you will explore a range of topics including:

  • Identify and demonstrate your knowledge of the different types of fire doors
  • Understand the regulations and standards applying to fire doors
  • Identify and appreciate the importance of critical components such as door closers and hinges
  • Clearly understand the inspection procedure and pass/fail criteria
  • Understand the advice to give the building owner/client in case of inspection failure
  • Identify issues that will affect the required performance of fire resisting door sets
  • Be aware of the importance of third party certification
  • Specify maintenance of fire doors best practice

You will undertake a range of practical tasks, where you will hang doors, undertake maintenance and inspect.

As part of this programme you will also study for the CSCS card, undertaking the exam towards the end of the second week of training.

Upon successful completion you will receive guaranteed interview with the Eric Wright Group for the position of Trainee Fire Door Joiner. As part of this role you will be required to carry out installations and maintenance of fire doors and passive fire products in accordance with the latest British and EN standards. You will work on small and large projects across the group portfolio, ensuring all works is completed to a high standard, complying with all health and safety and quality requirements.

A Level 1 Joinery qualification is required, or significant industry experience. Previous employment in a customer service role is also needed, as is a driving licence. A clean licence is preferred.
