Fleetwood Sheet Metal Works – Sector Based Work Academy

Preston’s College are delighted to be working in partnership with manufacturing organisation Fleetwood Sheet Metal Works, recruiting for not one but seven Trainee Labourer: Site Installation Engineer positions.

Fleetwood Sheet Metal Works is a growing organisation based in Fleetwood.

To be considered for one of the vacancies, you will be required to undertake two weeks of pre-employment training. The training takes place Monday – Thursday, 10:00am-3:30pm at Preston’s College, from Monday 17th May 2021.

The training programme will allow you to develop your skills and knowledge in-line with key elements of the role, with successful completion of the course providing a guaranteed interview on Thursday 27th May 2021.

Please note: to be considered for the position you will be required to hold a driving licence.

As part of the two week course you will study the following topics:

  • Induction and intensive Health and Safety CSCS training                                                     
  • Installation of ductwork and fixing to different backgrounds
  • Use of levelling equipment and different fixings
  • Power tool set-up and use
  • Manual handling
  • Employability skills

Upon completion of the training you will achieve a Level 1 Certificate in Construction Skills (Installing Ductwork), a Level 1 in Health and Safety in Construction and associated industries and a CSCS card.

You will also receive a PPE work readiness kit.

The Role: Trainee Labourer: Site Installation Engineer (Apprentice Ductwork Installer)

If successful at interview, you will be offered a Level 2 apprenticeship role. You will be required to complete this within 24 months. As part of your apprenticeship you will be required to undertake day release study at Preston’s College.

Duties:

  • Assisting fitters to install ventilation ductwork as instructed by experienced fitters
  • Making up ductwork branches, cutting in boots, access panels, bracketry etc.
  • Ensuring joints are sealed and gasket foam is correctly applied
  • Receiving deliveries and ensuring fitters have all necessary equipment to undertake duties accordingly
  • Ensuring full PPE and Health and Safety regulations are met at all times
