Jennifer Birkett, a Fashion, Theatrical Media Hair and Make-Up learner, has been awarded ‘highly commended’ in Warpaint magazine’s “The Pros Challenge” competition.
The theme was ‘Spring,’ and all entrants were asked to create a piece of original work; taking inspiration from the new life that’s beginning to grow in our gardens, parks and open spaces.
Jen said, “I absolutely loved being part of this. Our College tutor suggested that I enter this competition and I jumped at the chance. I created a mood board before finally putting brush to paint and creating this overall piece.
“I had no idea what others were submitting so I was so happy to find out that I had been award ‘highly commended’.
“I had so much fun creating this look. I did it all by sitting in front of mirror at home and painting myself. It took 4 hours.”
Emma Rutherford, Editorial Director @Warpaint_Mag says: “We had the highest volume of entrants for any of these challenges, and we’d like to thank everyone who took part. The quality of entries was high and we enjoyed the judging.
“We especially loved Jen’s entry piece, which really emulated the sprint theme we had asked for. Her whole presentation was fantastic and we loved the details on the chest mirrored on the face.”
Jennifer adds: “The winner was a professional makeup artist so to be highly commended is a real achievement for me.”
Jane Tudor, Head of School for Visual Performing Arts says: “We were absolutely ecstatic to hear of Jen’s success. And what makes this even more special is that Jen is one of our High Needs learners who came through our Foundation Learning programme, and her success is testament to the great determination and hard work that she has put in and everyone across the college who has helped to get her to where she is today.”
