GSU Landscapes – Sector Based Work Academy

Preston’s College are working in partnership with GSU Landscapes, recruiting for Landscaping and Ground Maintenance Operatives to join their busy and dynamic team. GSU are one of the fasting growing and expanding Grounds Maintenance Contractors in the UK and have been established since 1995. They specialise in full-service garden design, managing high volume contract projects for some of the UK’s leading Construction companies.

To be considered for these vacancies you will be required to undertake two weeks of pre-employment training where you will develop your skills and knowledge in-line with key elements of the role.

Upon completion you will have a guaranteed interview on 3rd June 2021 at GSU Landscapes premises.

Please note, for this role, you are required to hold a driving licence.

You will study the following topics:

  • Induction and intensive health and safety CSCS training                                                   
  • Paving and turfing
  • Fencing and geology
  • Using and maintaining hand tools and power tool training
  • Sustainability
  • Communication in the workplace, customer service and employability skills

Upon completion of your training you will achieve a Level 1 Certificate in Construction Skills, a Level 1 in Health and Safety in Construction and associated industries and a CSCS card. You will also receive a PPE work readiness kit.

The Role: Landscaping Site Operative

You will required to work as part of a mobile team of individuals and will therefore need a driving licence. Duties will include:

  • Turfing and planting           
  • Operating machinery (ride on mowers, rotavators, tractors, strimmers, hedge cutters etc)
  • Tree and shrub pruning
  • Working to prepared design plans and also off-plan
  • Landscaping work on new build sites across the North West

Benefits:

• Starting rate £9 per hour with paid overtime
• 42.5 hours per week, 7.30am-4.30pm
• 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays
• There are clear progression pathways and aligned pay structures reflecting enhanced duties and responsibilities
• Initial 6 month contract with transfer to permanent contract thereafter
