You’re hired! Business learners succeed in securing a range of roles with Currys PC World

Last week, learners from the Level 3 Business programme at Preston’s College undertook a 30-minute interview with national chain Currys PC World, in the hope of securing a position with the company locally, for the Black Friday and Christmas period.

Undertaking a presentation and the selling of a product prior to their formal interview, learners gained vital skills in interview preparation, interview technique and a stronger understanding of the key criteria typically used during the recruitment and selection process. This process complements their current studies, in particular, the recruitment and selection unit.

All interviews followed the traditional interview process for Currys PC World’s retail roles, with each learner receiving detailed, constructive feedback.

Kamran Ahmed, Curriculum Leader for Business said:

“Each year the learners undertake a rigorous interview process with Currys PC World. This allows them to gain real insight into the world of work and crucially, link classroom-based theory to practice. The interviews fit well with the recruitment and selection unit, which forms part of the wider Business programme, with constructive feedback provided to all learners. During the learner’s second year with us, we review the previous year’s feedback, helping them to improve their interview technique not just to improve their Currys PC World interview but in preparation for future university, apprenticeship and employment opportunities.”

This year, eight learners have been successful in securing positions, following their in-college interview, at the Deepdale and Capitol Centre stores, following in the footsteps of many previous business learners. We wish them all well in their new roles!
